Most things in nature can be divided.  Dichotomy is one of nature’s favorite themes.  Plants and animals have male and female, the sky comes in day and night, mountains rise to heights and the oceans run deep.

The real world is chalk full of divisions.

Managing these divisions often takes Divine Revelation.  Indeed, prophets have given mankind words to live by and often some structure in our lives.  Man-made is of lesser import until modernity raises its head, stands up, and begins to act.

Now there is cause for excitement or alarm.  Over the course of the 20th Century man demonstrated the capacity for rapid and dynamic change: social, political, and economic.  Change is not a new thing.  It is the pace of change that is new.  “The pace of change” is completely unprecedented.

So we watch and we wait and we wonder to ourselves or out loud.  Where is the world heading?  What will happen when it gets their?  One thing is certain.   We have a lot to learn about human affairs before we go anywhere.  Rushing may get us there sooner, but getting there in a hurry, without a plan, won’t help.
